Ammco Lifts Products - Frequently Asked Questions

What type of lift should I consider?

The old saying "the right tool for the best job is always first choice" applies to lifts as well. The following is a guide in choosing the right lift:

Standard Two Post Lift

  • Uses the least floor space but might require a 12" ceiling height
  • Raises a vehicle approximately 72" with wheel free capability for under car servicing (tires, brakes, oil change, muffler, etc)
  • Is not the most stable choice for lifting trucks and large vans
  • One of the lowest cost alternatives

Standard Four Post Lift

  • Uses more floor space than a two post lift but raises similar height
  • A more stable choice for lifting trucks and large vans
  • Faster vehicle positioning with drive-on / drive off capability
  • Good for alignment but requires rolling air jacks and turnplates
  • A mid range cost alternative

Standard Scissor Lift

  • Uses more floor space than a four post lift but raises similar height
  • A more stable choice for lifting trucks and large vans
  • Faster vehicle positioning with drive-on / drive off capability
  • Good for alignment but requires rolling air jacks and turnplates
  • Slightly higher in cost but has no cables and pulleys to maintain

Other lifts to consider may be low rise and mid rise lift for tire and brake work. Heavy duty two post, four post and moveable column lifts are also alternatives. Call us if you need more help in choosing the right lift. 1-877-799-5438

What accessories do I need to order?

You should consider ordering the following optional accessories with your lift

Two Post Lifts

  • High lift truck adapters (set of two) NOT REQUIRED WITH STACK PAD SYSTEM
  • Screw up pad adapters (set of four)

Four Post Lifts

  • Rolling air / hydraulic jacks (2 per lift)
  • Alignment turnplates (set of two)
  • Air line dryer / lubricator

Scissor Lifts

  • Rolling air / hydraulic jacks (2 per lift)
  • Alignment turnplates (set of two)
  • Air line dryer / lubricator
What approximate bay size and ceiling height do I need?

Standard two post lifts require a 12' ceiling height. Baseplate two post lifts require a 10' ceiling height. Heavy duty two post lifts require a16' ceiling height. Bay size depends on how the lift is positioned. Generally you should allow a minimum of 13' in width and 20' in length.

Standard four post lifts require a bay 14' to 16' wide and 20' to 28' long with ' ceiling height. Wheelbase capability of the lift determines actual bay length.

Standard scissor lifts require a bay 10' to 12' wide and 20' to 28' long with 10' ceiling height. Wheelbase capability of the lift determines actual bay length.

What are concrete and electrical requirements?

Lifts should always be installed on level concrete floors with a minimum of 4 inches (102 mm) and 3000 psi (20.7MPa) concrete that has been aged a minimum of 30 days.

Most two post, four post and scissor lifts require a constant supply of 230 volt - 1 phase - 60 Hz electrical power. Most two post lifts require a 20 amp circuit breaker. Most four post and scissor lifts require a 25 amp circuit breaker. All lifts must be installed to meet local building and electrical codes.

Some lifts are available with 230 volt - 3 phase - 60 Hz power. Please contact us for availability and any further questions.
